The workspace, and why not to rebuild it
The .TSW file arrives configured. The most common way to degrade it is to improve it.
Your package includes a pre-configured TradeStation workspace. Open it, save it, and use it. The charts, timeframes, and layout are set up for how the Signal Engine evaluates market activity.
Save twice
Covered in the installation guide and worth repeating, because it is the most common problem people hit:
- File → Workspaces → Save Workspace
- File → Desktops → Save Desktop
TradeStation treats these separately. Saving only the first appears to work until the next restart.
Why the layout is what it is
The framework evaluates market conditions across more than one timeframe — broader direction first, then shorter-term activity within it. The workspace reflects that structure, so the charts you are looking at correspond to the analysis being performed.
Rearranging it does not change what the Signal Engine computes. It changes what you can see of it, which is a different kind of loss and easier to miss.
Adding your own indicators
You can. Two cautions before you do.
Most indicators you would add are reading the same price series. Adding three of them does not give you three opinions — it gives you one opinion, restated, and a chart that is harder to read. This is the single most common way people make a working setup worse. See why stacking five indicators still gives you one read and correlated indicators.
The second: if you add something, add one thing, and be able to say in advance what would make it disagree with what is already on the chart. If you cannot name a circumstance where it would contradict the existing setup, it is not adding information.
Anything genuinely independent — a volume measure, a correlated market, the economic calendar — is a better use of the space than another price-derived overlay.
Practical points
- Keep the original files. Store the
.ELDand.TSWsomewhere permanent. If you reinstall TradeStation or move machines, you will want them. - Save the desktop after any change you want to keep. Same two-step as above.
- If you modify the workspace heavily, keep a clean copy. Being able to return to the delivered layout makes it possible to tell whether a problem is the software or the changes.
- Multiple monitors are a desktop-level setting. Arrange the windows, then save the desktop.
What the workspace does not do
It does not place trades, route orders, or manage positions. It displays analysis. Trade selection, entry timing, sizing, risk management, and execution all remain yours — see why there's nothing to tune.
